Marin Poetry Center Reading Series: Maxine Chernoff & David Watts In-Person
Let’s fall into a new season of poetry with a luminous reading by Maxine Chernoff and David Watts. Come out for the poems and cool conversation.
Modernist roots poet and Mill Valley resident Maxine Chernoff will read from her most recent books, Light and Clay and Under the Music. Chernoff is the recipient of 2009 PEN Award and 2013 NEA award in poetry, the 2016 Visiting Writer at American Academy in Rome, and an Emeritus Professor at SF State. Her two books, A Vegetable Emergency (1976) and Utopia TV Store (1979), were the main influences for any woman prose poet born between 1949 and 1960.
David Watts has authored books of poetry, short stories, mysteries, westerns, aphorisms, haiku, haiku translation, and a Christmas memoir. He is a physician, a classically trained musician, and a retired NPR host and television personality. Watts is the author of Bedside Manners: One Doctor’s Reflections on the Oddly Intimate Encounters between Patient and Healer; Taking the History; and Slow Walking at Jenner-by-the-Sea. Watt's work allows his poetic voice to inform and nurture his medical practice and teaching. david-watts-books.com
