Marin Poetry Center Reading Series: Tureeda Mikell & Sharon Coleman In-Person
Celebrate the unstoppable brilliance of Tureeda Mikell and Sharon Coleman—two boundary-breaking writers bringing spirit, grit, and radical beauty to the page and stage.

Tureeda Mikell, Story Medicine Woman, is a poetic powerhouse who uses storytelling to push back against injustice. She is a cultural activist, Black Panther Party Alum, and has served as Poet-in-Residence at Museum of the African Diaspora, Randall Museum, De Young Museum, and Oakland Museum. In 2024, the City of Berkeley awarded her its Lifetime Achievement Award. Her book Synchronicity: The Oracle of Sun Medicine was nominated for the California Book Award and her newest book is titled The Body: Oracle of Memory.
Sharon Coleman is a fifth-generation Northern Californian with a penchant for languages and entangled word roots. Her hard-edged, sparely told narratives twist suggestively in the mind. She co-curates the Berkeley Poetry Festival and Lyrics & Dirges reading series. Her books include Paris Blinks (micro-fiction) and Half Circle (poetry). In 2022 she received the Maverick Award from the ruth weiss Foundation for her poetry. sharoncolemanpoetry.com
