Aracelis Girmay & Nancy Miller Gomez In-Person

Join us on this first day of spring as we celebrate the new season with the delicious poetry of Aracelis Girmay and Nancy Miller Gomez! Light refreshments and warm companionship will be served. 

Aracelis Girmay is the author of the poetry collections the black maria (BOA, 2016), Kingdom Animalia (BOA, 2011), and Teeth (Curbstone, 2007). Her books have been named finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and the Connecticut Book Award. She has received fellowships from the Whiting Foundation, Civitella Ranieri, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cave Canem Foundation, among others.

 

Nancy Miller Gomez is the author of Inconsolable Objects (YesYes Books) and the chapbook Punishment (Rattle chapbook series). Her poems appear in Best American Poetry and other journals, and she received a special mention in the 2023 Pushcart Prize Anthology. She has taught poetry in Salinas Valley State Prison, the Santa Cruz County Jails, and Juvenile Hall. She lives with her family in Santa Cruz, California.

About the Marin Poetry Center Reading Series: A vibrant, varied selection of accomplished poets from near and far present their latest work in this lively and engaging monthly series. Doors open at 6:15. Reading begins at 6:30.
