SUMMARY:Where the Door Opens: Writing Poetry of Place
DESCRIPTION:This series of three generative poetry workshops will focus on
writing about place. To spark ideas for poems\, we will explore the local
environment\, make use of scientific observation skills\, call on our
memories\, and consider historical perspectives. We’ll also discuss how
writing can connect us to our communities and ourselves. All ages and
levels of experience with poetry and writing are welcome! \n\nAdditional
information: \n\nThe workshop will meet in the SmartGarden outside the
Library and will take place there and by the creek in Old Mill Park. All
necessary writing materials (pencils\, pens\, and paper) will be available
for participants\; you may also bring your own journal and pen or pencil if
you prefer. Bring a hat and sunscreen on warm days. In case of rain\, we'll
meet inside the Library in the Conference Room. Participants are encouraged
to attend all three sessions\, but may still register and participate if
only able to join one or two sessions. \n\nEmilie Lygren is a poet and
outdoor educator who has developed dozens of resources focused on nature
 journaling\, outdoor science education\, and social-emotional learning
through her work with the BEETLES Project at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
Her first collection of poetry\, What We Were Born For was the Poetry
Foundation's monthly book pick in February 2022.
