Mystery Author Panel

Mystery Author Panel In-Person

Calling all mystery lovers! The Mill Valley Library has teamed up with the Northern California chapter of Mystery Writers of America to bring us a criminally-good program. Join us for an evening of book reading, Q&A, and all things mystery. Our esteemed panelists will read selections of their works and answer questions on the writing process, inspiration, getting published, and what's next for them. Panelists include:

Glenda Carroll: Glenda wrote a weekly sailing column for the Marin Independent Journal for 19 years.  During that time, she also wrote for local, national and international sailing publications.  She branched into travel writing and her features have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, Travel & Leisure, Ford Times, Chevron USA, Defenders of Wildlife, and Bay & Delta Yachtsman.
When she discovered surfing, PacificWaverider.com, a surfing website, asked her to write a twice-weekly column, which she did for more than three years. Dead Code is the third book in the Trisha Carson mysteries. Her debut thriller was Dead in the Water, followed by Drop Dead Red. Her books are based on personal experience in open water swimming.  She’s raced in more than 150 open water events in Northern California, as well as Hawaii and Perth, Australia. She was the Open Water Chair for Pacific Masters Swimming for five years and was the point person for more than 25 open water swims each season ranging in length from 500 yards to 5K/10K.
Currently, she tutors high school students in English. Glenda has an M.A. from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and a B.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.
She lives in San Rafael, Ca with her dog McCovey.

Joe Clifford: Joe Clifford is the author of several books, including Junkie Love, the Jay Porter Thriller Series, and The Shadow People, as well as editor of Trouble in the Heartland: Crime Stories Based on the Songs of Bruce Springsteen and the forthcoming No Body, No Crime: 22 Tales of Noir Inspired by the Songs of Taylor Swift.

Beth McMullen: Beth McMullen is best known for the Mrs. Smith’s Spy School for Girls trilogy, middle-grade spy thrillers, packed with action, adventure and humor. Other series include the Lola Benko, Treasure Hunter series about a globetrotting 12-year-old daughter of a famous archeologist; and the Secret of the Storm series, middle grade action/adventure packed with friendship, fantasy, whiskers and wings. Land of Dragons, the second Secret of the Storm book, releases March 7, 2023. Additionally, Beth wrote the Sally Sin series for adult readers. Beth lives in Northern California with her husband, kids, cats (one of whom is definitely a dragon).

Mary Rae: Mary and her co-author, Wanda Venters, and wrote Break Bone Fever with the idea of creating a medical mystery series featuring strong female leads set in original locations. Break Bone Fever introduces their protagonists. They are professional physicians who take on the roles of amateur sleuths. They are drawn into the investigation of the death of a friend who was researching the effects of climate change on infectious disease in the southern United States. The specific disease agent was dengue, also known as break bone fever. The story was set in Galveston, Texas, an island with a long and colorful history. It is also the location of an ultra-high security biosafety laboratory which features fictionally in the work.
The second book in the series is complete and awaiting publication. Breaking Apart is set in Denver. The apparent suicide of a young veteran is suspected to be a murder. The tragedy of veteran suicide acts as a backdrop to this medical thriller set in the nations largest healthcare delivery system, the Veterans Administration.
Wanda and Mary are both retired physicians with three areas of practice between them. They endeavor to use their joint experience to bring authenticity to their work. Although their plots revolve around diseases and feature medical settings, they work hard to balance medical and technical information with fast-paced plots and interesting supporting characters.

This program is FREE and light refreshments will be served. Authors will have copies of their books for sale.
