Digital Literacy at the Community Center: There's Too Much Technology, Actually In-Person
Feeling left behind by the digital rush? Embarrassed not to be conversant about the latest AI chatbot models? Feel like a fool because you're not wearing Mark Zuckerberg's weird creepy surveillance glasses?
Don't. It's time to question the assumption that tech is our savior, tech is good and easy, tech is progress. These days, "tech" is spying on you for profit (and repression), manipulating you, and draining your bank account to prop up a never-ending hype cycle that doesn't deliver what it promises.
This introduction to our digital literacy series will de-gloss what has become the foundation of a dystopian nightmare and the source of another looming popping economic bubble, consider the social ramifications of our heedless hurtle into "tech," and set the foundation for a more healthy and skeptical relationship with our gadgets.
As you can probably tell, this will be a personal, humane, and human-centered overview from Digital Services Librarian Franklin Walther, a real actual non-AI person. You are people too. We are people first. Together, let's gain some real knowledge and confidence in tech while taking (easy, I promise) steps to reclaim a little privacy and sanity.
