Staged Reading: The Gull by Tara Blau Smollen In-Person
Set in 1938 Oak Bluffs, an historical Black vacation community on Martha’s Vineyard, "The Gull", a multiracial adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull, explores the sacrifices Black artists must make in the pursuit of success. Anna hopes to convince her son Connie to abandon the Vineyard for a future in Hollywood, but Connie has his own artistic dreams and is in love with an island girl. The reading is directed by Peter Callendar and features Margo Hall, Fred Pitts, Atlantis Clay, Joshua Williams, Jamella Cross and Mick Laugs.
