Josh Healey emcees a special Saturday night edition of true, live storytelling with an impressive lineup featuring comedian and performer Don Reed, host of the monthly SF Moth StorySlam and standup comic Dhaya Lakshminarayan, international poet and creative non-fiction writer Joyce Lee, and five-time champion of the Moth StorySLAM, Brandon Spars. You won’t want to miss this one! Throw your name in the hat to tell a one-minute story in the Lightning Round.

Josh Healey, an award-winning writer, comedic performer, filmmaker, and creative activist, is the executive producer and writer for Offsides Productions, creating digital series and films with performers like Daveed Diggs, Sarah Silverman, and W. Kamau Bell that have reached over 15 million viewers. Healey wrote and produced seasons of The North Pole, a comedic digital series with Rosario Dawson and Boots Riley about gentrification, global warming, and gluten-free donuts. A regular on NPR’s Snap Judgment, he has been featured in the NYT, SF Chronicle, and his 13-year-old nephew Brian Silverstein’s Youtube page, where it has at least 27 ‘likes.’ Born and raised in Washington, DC, these days he eats his daily bagel in Oakland, CA.
Dhaya Lakshminarayanan is a stand-up comedian, storyteller, and writer. Her debut album DHAYATRIBE debuted #2 on iTunes. She received the Liz Carpenter Political Humor Award for her stand-up comedy. She has performed across Asia, in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. As a television host, Dhaya helmed the inaugural season of the Emmy award-winning High School Quiz show on PBS’s WGBH. She currently serves as the host of the San Francisco’s monthly Moth.
Joyce Lee is an international poet, storyteller, and creative non-fiction writer, writing coach and professor from Oakland. Lee began her slam performance career being most known for her strong presence and fiery delivery that time and life experience has molded to a more calming sizzle. Joyce is the founder of an all black and first nation womyn/non-men affinity space called JL Soul Camp. To learn more, contact Lee on IG @JLSoul Camp. Along with teaching American Literature and Composition to college students, Lee is in the process of completing two books for Trio House Press. She is ever grateful to be invited here amongst the fly youngins.
Don Reed was NPR's Snap Judgment Storyteller of the Year in 2016. His solo shows have won and been nominated for multiple NAACP and Theatre Bay Area Awards. He is he host and curator of Deer Park Villa's - Redwood Nights: Storytelling Under the Stars. Reed was also the longtime warm-up comedian for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He recently partnered with Carson Entertainment Group/Johnny Carson Estate for his multi-media one man show "The Never Too Late Show", sharing producing duties with Seinfeld writer Pat Hazell.
Brandon Spars. As a teacher of both high school humanities and college writing, Brandon has always brought storytelling into his lessons, whether focusing on ancient history or English language acquisition. He has published four books on the intersection between storytelling, ancient history, and pedagogy, including Setting a Plot: the Impact of Geography on Culture, Myth and Storytelling. Brandon is a regular Bay Area storyteller as well as a TEDx speaker and a five-time champion of the Moth StorySLAM. Recently, he had the honor of performing at the Exchange Place as part of the 2022 National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
