Shorts Festival: If Memory Serves In-Person
The Playwrights Lab's Short Play Festival of 10-minute plays returns! The evening features seven comic and dramatic short plays written by the members of the Playwrights Lab, and acted and directed by stellar members of the theatrical community. The unifying theme is: If Memory Serves: What we Remember, What we Forget and What We'd l:ke to Forget. Contributing playwrights include John Levine, Lynne Kaufman, Mercilee Jenkins, Cary Pepper, Hal Gelb, Martin Russell, Naomi Newman and Bryan Quinn..In collaboration with the Playwrights Lab.
Note: This event will be moved to the Library's Main Readin Room if attendance exceeds the capacity of the Creekside Room. Please register in advance so we can get an accurate count and plan accordingly.
The Plays:
Remind Me Again, a droll comedy by Martin Russell. Two men who may or may not know each other discover a reliable memory is a precarious thing.
Simmer, And Serve Cold by Cary Pepper. Now that Lydia's leaving the company, is this a good time for Evelyn to admit all the nasty things she did to her -- and for Lydia to respond in kind?
Refreshed by John Levine. A memory expert, puffing his book on talk radio, is challenged by a caller who reminds him of a questionable past encounter.
First Kiss by Lynne Kaufman. A husband and wife recall their first kiss -- differently.
Bye-Bi: A Cosmic Tale by Mercilee Jenkins. A meeting at the pearly gates and the question "If you got another chance at life, who would you be?"
Silver Water, a memory play by Naomi Newman. Two young sisters talk about life and death as they wash the dinner dishes.
3000 Miles by Hal Gelb. A father's Alzheimer's Disease causes his poet son to take a second look at family relations and his part in it.
The plays will be performed by Bay Area favorites including Arwen Anderson, Sheila Balter, Wilma Bonet, Anne Hallinan, Mick Laugs, Danielle Levin, Jarion Monroe, Danya Solomon and are directed by David Keith, Dana Kelly, Phoebe Moyer and Ken Sonkin,
