First Wednesday: 150 Years of the Blithedale Hotel, with Tim Wood

First Wednesday: 150 Years of the Blithedale Hotel, with Tim Wood In-Person

One hundred and fifty years ago, Dr. John Cushing, a San Francisco physician overwhelmed by the demands of his medical practice, moved with his family to a homestead at the foot of Mount Tamalpais—what is now Mill Valley. There, he opened Blithedale, a rural resort where he and his guests could relax and restore their health in a beautiful outdoor setting. Over the next four decades, Blithedale flourished, attracting fashionable summer visitors from around the Bay Area and becoming one of Northern California’s most popular resort hotels. Join Tim Wood, a great-great-grandson of John Cushing, as he shares the story of the Blithedale Hotel and the Cushing family, whose members played key roles in shaping Mill Valley’s rich heritage.
