Josh Healey emcees a night of true, live storytelling featuring Doug Cordell, Neshama Franklin, Dhaya Lakshminarayanan and Shawn Taylor. Audience members can drop their name in a hat to tell a one-minute story in the Lightning Round.

ThumbnailJosh Healey, an award-winning writer, comedic performer, filmmaker, and creative activist, is the executive producer and writer for Offsides Productions, creating digital series and films with performers like Daveed Diggs, Sarah Silverman, and W. Kamau Bell that have reached over 15 million viewers. Healey wrote and produced seasons of The North Pole, a comedic digital series with Rosario Dawson and Boots Riley about gentrification, global warming, and gluten-free donuts. A regular on NPR’s Snap Judgment, he has been featured in the NYT, SF Chronicle, and his 13-year-old nephew Brian Silverstein’s Youtube page, where it has at least 27 ‘likes.’ Born and raised in Washington, DC, these days he eats his daily bagel in Oakland, CA.

 

Doug Cordell  is a National Public Radio storyteller, comedian, Emmy-nominated writer and international speaker. His true-life radio stories air on NPR’s Snap Judgment and APM's Marketplace, and he been a featured performer and speaker at theaters, comedy clubs, universities and conferences across the U.S. and abroad. His talks and workshops on the Power of Storytelling have been conducted for a wide range of corporate, nonprofit and general audiences.  A member of the Writers Guild of America with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dramatic Writing from New York University, his television credits include PBS, Disney and Nickelodeon. Dhaya Lakshminarayanan is a stand-up comedian, storyteller, and writer. Her debut album DHAYATRIBE debuted #2 on iTunes. She received the Liz Carpenter Political Humor Award for her stand-up comedy. She has performed across Asia, in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. As a television host, Dhaya helmed the inaugural season of the Emmy award-winning High School Quiz show on PBS’s WGBH. She currently serves as the host of the San Francisco’s monthly Moth. 

 

 

 

 

Shawn Taylor is a writer, university lecturer, and communications coach and consultant. He is a lifelong music fan, and spends much of his time listening to bootlegs of his favorite bands, and trying to introduce his daughter to new music. His new book, “The Alphabet for News and Expecting Fathers” will be released around Father’s Day 2024.

 

 

 

 

 

Neshama FranklinNeshama Franklin has been telling stories ever since she learned to talk. She got her professional start more than three decades ago sharing folktales at the Fairfax Library where she still works. Then she branched into personal stories and has been performing ever since. She's been a grand slam winner for the Moth and Six Feet Apart Productions, has appeared at Tell It On Tuesday, National Storytelling Network and Bay Area Storytelling Festivals. She has often participated in the Lightning Round at Naked Truth. Check out her YouTube channel to see her storytelling and other projects.
