10th Annual Poetry World Series In-Person

It's the10th Annual Poetry World Series! In this wacky and fabulous literary event full of quips, repartee and wordplay, emcee Daniel Handler pitches prompts from the audience to two teams of poets who wield their poems to compete for the series title.  You don't have to like baseball or poetry to enjoy this unique outing which includes beer,  popcorn, and ballpark music. Featuring Francesca Bell, Leticia Hernandez, Hieu Minh Nguyen, Jacques J. Rancourt, Christell Victoria Roach, and Dashaun Washington.

Registration highly recommended. Adults and high school students only! Free wine reception at 6:30pm for pre-registered guests. Waitlist line opens up at 6:45 on a first come, first served basis. 

Emcee Bio:

Daniel Handler’s seven novels include Why We Broke Up, All The Dirty Parts and Bottle Grove. As Lemony Snicket, he is the author of far too many books for children, including Poison for Breakfast, All The Wrong Questions and A Series of Unfortunate Events, adapted for screen and television.  His latest book is a memoir, And Then? And Then What Else?

Hieu Minh Nguyen is the author of two collections of poetry, his latest book, Not Here, won the Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry. Hieu is a lecturer at Stanford.

 

 

 

 

 

Jacques J. Rancourt is the author of Brocken Spectre (2021) and Novena (2017), as well as a chapbook, In the Time of PrEP (2018). He lives and teaches in San Francisco.

 

 

 

 

 

Christell Victoria Roach is an Emmy-nominated poet and performer from Miami, Florida. As a descendant of Miami’s Black Pioneers, she writes about Blackness, the Blues, and many different types of love.

 

 

 

 

Dāshaun Washington is a poet living in San Francisco and a 2023-2025 Wallace Stegner Fellow. His work has appeared in Poetry, The Nation, Poem-a-Day, American Poetry Review, and elsewhere.

 

 

 

 

 

UMPIRE BIOS:

Zeina Hashem Beck is a Lebanese poet and the author of, most recently, O, winner of the 2023 Arab American Book Award for poetry.

 

 

 

Peter Coyote is a well-known actor, documentary film narrator, and writer whose most recent book of prose is Zen in the Vernacular, and of poetry is The Lone Ranger and Tonto Meet Buddha.
