Participants can request a library copy of the book during the registration process. You can also use your library card to get this title as a downloadable audiobook through Hoopla (no queues), and an ebook or audiobook through Libby (subject to availability), (Contact library staff if you need help at 415-389-4292).
April's selection is An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo. The discussion will be led by Jayne McPherson
In this stunning collection, Joy Harjo finds blessings in the abundance of her homeland and confronts the site where the Mvskoke people, including her own ancestors, were forcibly displaced. From her memory of her mother’s death, to her beginnings in the Native rights movement, to the fresh road with her beloved, Harjo’s personal life intertwines with tribal histories to create a space for renewed beginnings.
Jayne McPherson is currently hosting a Haiku Writing Group at Marin Art & Garden Center. Past editor of Marin Poetry Center's High School Anthology, Sand & Salt Water, her writing has appeared in: Modern Haiku, Spillway, and in the California Anthology, Corners of the Mouth. Her full-length collection's Orphan at the Well, was published by Space Frame Books in San Rafael. She serves on the Marin Poetry Center Board.
